That sounds reasonable! That's how it usually is at normal face 2 face garage sales anyways!!

How in the world would such a thing work???
There would undoubtedly be numerous items that many people want -- how would we decide who gets to buy what?
Sounds great to me as I am looking to buy!! I am looking for a PM Felicity actually so if anyone has one they would like to sell me you can email me on
I have a comment on the suggestion that it is unfair re first come first serve. It really is the only fair way to do it. Noone can prove their internet speed situation and you would have an awful fight on your hands if that were the case. It can only be first come first serve. That is the way it is with any purchasing you make, whether it be at a store or a real yard sale.
I do think there is a problem with people asking sellers to hold items for them while they make up their mind. Meanwhile others have their cash in hand and are wanting to buy. So I think there needs to be a rule about holds. Perhaps 24 hours or else each seller makes their own rules which they state at the bottom of their item listing. Actually they would need to state their policy on how to be paid, holds, returns (if at all), whether they charge handling fees etc etc etc.
This is not as simple as it sounds. Perhaps the moderators will have a better idea about what would work here.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Sounds great to me!!

<font face="comic sans ms"><font color="hotpink">Ooh, i love the idea of a "yard sale" here! As long as its ok with the moderators, of course. How soon can we do this?

Juliette you are absolutely right...we would have to set down some rules...we wouldnt want someone coming in with lots of cash snatching up all the good stuff.....and we certainly would want someone to be buying all the good stuff and turning around and selling it on EBAY......we will have to think on a good way to handle this...also a first come first get is not good either like you said internet connections run at different speeds.....
Any Ideas.....open to all and any
I think the least complicated rules would be to leave the details up to each seller. The sellers would all have to have their own details listed such as, no holds, paypal only, etc.
As far as the overall rules, I think there should be a set list time (items MUST be listed no earlier than 1pm EST no later than 3pm EST, for example)and also a set yard sale time. All transactions should be made through PM or email so the board isn't crammed with everyones post saying "is ___ still available?", the only posts on that thread should be for sale items. If you list you must be available the entire sale time to update your post regularly.
Maybe there's a way to send your list of items to sell to one person by a deadline, then that person makes one post with all items listed, with the person to contact for a particular item, by a certain time? That way everyone knows what time to be online waiting for the yard sale to open. The volunteer person can update the list as needed.
Those are just some of my ideas. Sounds like fun though as long as it's well organized and rules are followed.

Thanks for saying that, marymax -- I was thinking exactly the same thing. First come, first served would be a logistical mess.
What about a silent auction? Sellers could post a list and pictures (if they choose) of their items. People could e-mail/PM them and let them know what they'd like to pay. Then the seller could decide who gets what.
I can't remember exactly, but it seems as though I once read an HB rule about making offers on items not being allowed. Not sure if that's correct or if it would mean that a silent auction would be out.
Great Idea.....I would love to join in!
MaryMax....The "Coloring eggs for Easter" photos are so the cutest! Where in the world did you get all the doll sized items???
